Knight of Pentacles
Hero of Earth
All knights are explorers, but the Knight of Pentacles
explores the world at a slower pace than most. He’s an elemental creature of
earth, and earth doesn’t move on its own. It usually takes an earthquake or
an avalanche for such a grounded being to overcome the forces of gravity and
inertia that tie him to his favorite plot of land.
The Knight of Pentacles also has a studious,
intellectual streak that seems to have propelled him on a journey of
self-discovery. Slowly but steadily, he has climbed to the top of a
snow-covered peak in a range of mountains.
The rocky, uneven terrain represents the essence of
physical existence. Mountains are solid, harsh, and unforgiving. They’re
born of volcanic lava or extruded from magma at the center of the earth.
Once they’ve settled into place, they become immovable, unchanging landmarks
that can be seen from space.
The Knight of Pentacles is dressed like the other
gnomes. He wears a deerskin cape, bearskin cuffs, and a granite pentacle.
His soft leather boots, however, set him apart. They’re more worn than his
fellow elementals; he has traveled further. That’s because once a piece of
earth begins to move, it becomes a force that’s almost impossible to stop.
The knight’s rough-hewn wand is more of a club than a
stick. He rarely needs to use it, because few would be foolish enough to
stand between the knight and any objective in his sights.
The knight’s ears are pointed, and his hands and face
are red and raw from the cold. The air is thin on the mountain top, but none
of his physical discomfort seems to matter. Once the Knight of Pentacles
sets out on a mission, he’ll finish it, no matter how long it takes.
