The Wizards Tarot™ Judgment Card

Judgment

Proctor of Final Exams

You probably knew this day was coming — the day when you would be judged on your work and progress at Mandrake Academy. Don’t worry. The tests are take-home, the answers are in this study guide, and attendance is 90 percent of your grade.

Key Symbols

  • Four students sit at their desks, which symbolize work and study.

  • They’re dressed in red, yellow, blue, and green, which represent fire, air, water, and earth.

  • Their uniforms could suggest a competition: there’s one student to represent each school of magic at Mandrake Academy.

  • The students are seated on stools, not chairs. They can’t lean back and rest. They have to shoulder their own weight.

  • Each student has a candle to help illuminate the questions — and their answers.

  • At the front of the room, a proctor holds a leather portfolio for the exams. She’s dressed in black, because the Judgment experience isn’t one that anyone takes lightly. Even so, she doesn’t look much older than the students who are taking the test. She may be waiting for her own examination scores and results.

  • The bird swinging from a perch is a Phoenix, the mythic creature that burns to death, and then rises from its own ashes. It’s a reassuring symbol. It suggests that while failure is always a possibility, it doesn’t signify an ending.

  • The proctor’s portfolio is marked with the glyph for Pluto, the planet that symbolizes endings. In mythology, Pluto was the god of the underworld.

  • The window features the Hebrew letter Shin. One of the letter’s meanings is shinui, or change.
